March Grantee Update

It is with great pleasure that we announce our two new projects in Kenya:

In October we partnered with Generation Guiders—a Nairobi-based CBO focused on empowering underserved girls—to put on an all-girls football tournament. The tournament was a great success, and had over 2,000 participants. We learned that at the end of 2015, Generation Guiders lost their program space, unfortunately. Without this space, Generation Guiders was at risk of losing the vital programs they provide to Nairobi’s vulnerable adolescents. The community very generously offered Generation Guiders a parcel of land, but it had no structure. We are pleased to announce that we are partnering with Generation Guiders once more to build an office and program space that will enable Generation Guiders to continue growing and strengthening their community. The innovative structure will be constructed out of old shipping containers – keep an eye out for pictures later this year.

Further, our continuing partnership with ZanaAfrica will continue during 2016. This year, with our support, ZanaAfrica will provide 10,000 girls throughout Kenya (ages 11-14) with sanitary pads, underwear, and reproductive health education so that they can stay in school and step into their potential – transforming their own lives, communities and the future landscape of Kenya’s working force. Once again, we are extremely grateful to partners who help make this project possible, including East Africa Packaging Industries assistance with customs clearing and Megasoft for procurement of pads; and we are grateful to CellMark employees who made these connections possible. Without these dynamic partnerships, 10,000 girls would miss up to 6 weeks of school in 2016. PaperSeed is also providing a grant for ZanaAfrica to conduct critical training, measurement & evaluation for their programs to show the impact this initiative continues to have.

It has been a very exciting start to 2016 for PaperSeed, and we are just getting started! We look forward to sharing more good news with you as it comes our way.
